Syracuse picked up a commitment from Half Hollow Hills High School West athlete DeVante McFarlane this morning, a three-star running back according to Scout.com. Some fans may look at his offer sheet and question his ranking, however his junior highlights definitely back up that evaluation, which we have inside.

Dix Hills, N.Y., athlete DeVante McFarlane is rated 49th in the country at running back by Scout.com and when he committed to Syracuse on Friday, some fans wondered why he didn’t have more offers. We went out and got his junior highlights for ourselves to review and whether it’s with the ball in his hands, catching the ball or on defense, this young 6-foot-1, 195-pound prospect looks like a bit of a steal for the Orange.

After reviewing McFarlane’s film, we could see him at running back, safety or even outside linebacker if he bulks up a bit in college. This is the type of athlete you simply bring into your program and plug in wherever he can contribute at his most natural fit.
