SU Lands Duke Transfer Michael Gbinije

Michael Gbinije

Michael Gbinije, a highly-touted guard/forward coming out of high school in the Class of 2011, left Duke about two weeks ago - and on Friday he found a home with the Blue Devils' future ACC rival in Syracuse.

It took about two weeks to learn that Michael Gbinije was leaving Duke and committing to Syracuse. The news was first broken by NationofOrange.com late Friday night, on the heels of Gbinije's visit to SU.

Gbinije, the No. 7 small forward in Scout's Class of 2011 rankings - who stands 6-foot-6, 180 lbs - was recruited heavily by the Orange originally before he chose to enroll at Duke.

Because of transfer rules, it appears that Gbinije will have to sit out the 2012-13 season, although he will have three years of eligibility to play after that.

Coming out of Bendictine High School (Richmond, VA) - big-time programs like Duke, SU, North Carolina, Maryland and Villanova courted him. But as a freshman with the Blue Devils, Gbinije played in just 19 games with spotty minutes.
