B.J. Johnson Chooses Syracuse

Syracuse landed their third commitment of the 2013 class when rising prospect B.J. Johnson selected the Orange on Tuesday. CuseNation.com spoke with him about the choice.

It's been a big week for Syracuse hoops. Syracuse media day and midnight madness were on Friday. More importantly, the Orange landed two commitments in less than 24 hours as B.J. Johnson becomes the latest prospect to choose Syracuse.

Syracuse has been a favorite of Johnson's for quite some time. However, he was waiting for a scholarship offer from the Orange. Once they made that two weeks ago, he wanted to make sure that was the right decision by visiting the campus. After visiting this past weekend during midnight madness, the 3-star wing from Lower Merion High School knew it was the place for him.

"Me and the coaching staff have a great relationship," Johnson explained. "They're style of play fits the way I play. On my visit, everyone made me feel at home. From the players to the students and the people on campus."

One of those relationships is with assistant coach Adrian Autry, who was Johnson's primary recruiter at Syracuse. The constant communication let him know that Syracuse really wanted him.

"Autry recruited me," the athletic wing said. "Basically he talked about the opportunity for playing time could be open depending on some of the decisions of the players who might leave early. Autry's great. We talk about every other day if not every day.

But Autry isn't the only coach Johnson has a good relationship with. He likes Jim Boeheim as well.

"Boeheim really likes me," Johnson declared. "He thinks I can be great. So it's a pretty decent relationship."

One of the staples of Syracuse basketball is the 2-3 zone. Johnson believes he will fit into that well, and is excited about the transition to the ACC.

"I think I could definitely fit in the zone," he said. "I'm long and athletic. The move is definitely good. It doesn't get much better than the ACC in college basketball."

Johnson is the second commit this week, and the third member of Syracuse's 2013 class. He chose Syracuse over Temple, Villanova, and Rutgers.
