Syracuse has used a carousel of backs in their running game so far this season. Each of those backs…
On running back Adonis Ameen-Moore:
"Moore was injured during last week's game," said Marrone. "We're working hard to get him back. He's really done a great job for us, in the package that we have him in."
He has not yet been ruled out, but if indeed sits out against South Florida, Marrone has a backup plan. "If he's not playing in that package, whatever back is not in the rotation at that time will be in that situation," Marrone shared.
Moore has scored inside the redzone in each of Syracuse's last three games.
On running back Ashton Broyld:
"Ashton Broyld was injured this week, hasn't practiced…he's doubtful. We still haven't made a decision on him," Marrone expressed.
Broyld was put back into action after being held on the sidelines for the previous two games by the decision of the coaching staff.
He was utilized most in the final quarter last week versus UConn to take time off the clock. Broyld had 11 carries for a total of 58 yards. Eight of those 11 carries came consecutively on one drive, resulting in three first downs.
On strong safety/return specialist Ritchy Desir:
"Ritchy Desir was injured last week in the game, so we haven't made a decision on him," Marrone remarked.
In the event that Desir does not play, Marrone spoke on his replacement. "If that's not the case, then obviously Steven Rene will be back there on punts."
Desir gained 39 total yards on his punt returns against UConn. His single-game output is more than what Syracuse accumulated over the first six games (22 yards).
On wide receiver/return specialist Jeremiah Kobena:
"Jeremiah Kobena's looked good this week, so we feel good about putting him back there on kickoff returns and putting him in the rotation at receiver," said Marrone.
Kobena only played in Syracuse's first two games. However, he had two receiving touchdowns in his season debut and was beginning to look like a potential deep threat.
The Orange will play the role of guest, looking to win their first road game of the season when they face the Bulls on Saturday, October 27th, at 7pm Eastern.
