The University of Louisville football team will try to remain undefeated today at noon when the Cardinals face Syracuse in a Big East Conference game.
U of L (10-0, 4-0) will need to play solid defense against a Syracuse offense that leads the Big East in passing and total offense.
But the Cardinals will also need to keep up the solid offense. U of L leads the nation in red-zone proficiency and must stay on track against the Orange.
”Syracuse is a good team with a very good defense,” offensive coordinator Shawn Watson said.
Added U of L coach Charlie Strong: “This is going to be a test for us.”
U of L has converted on 38 of 39 attempts in the red zone, including 30 touchdowns. The only time the Cardinals didn’t score points when inside the 20-yard line was one f seven trips against North Carolina.
”Teddy (Bridgewater) doesn’t force the ball,” Watson said. “He has managed us very well down there. When we evaluated ourselves in February, we determined that we needed to be more efficient in red zone.
“So we’re in red zone (during practice) on Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday. We are three days in the red. We hit it hard and we emphasis it and because of our emphasis, I believe the kids are really comfortable down there.”
The Cards will need to keep up that efficiency today.
