Cuse's Hopes of a Big East Title Still Alive

Syracuse can still become Big East champions. A wild afternoon of football broke just right for the Orange, as they look to become conference champions for the first time in the Marrone era.

A crazy afternoon of Big East football saw the improbable happen. Pittsburgh upsetting Rutgers at home wasn't the shocker. There's a lot of talent on the Panthers, and the Scarlet Knights really struggle to score at times.

Connecticut beating Louisville on the road? Seemingly impossible, especially considering that the Cardinals had two weeks to think about the blowout loss to Syracuse. Clearly they'd come out mad and dominate the Huskies, right? Not exactly. UConn won in triple overtime, 23-20, despite the large talent differential.

So what do those two results mean for Syracuse? It means the Orange still have a shot at a Big East title. Somehow, almost magically. It's crazy, but true.

If Louisville beats Rutgers at home next week, Syracuse will finish in either a three or four way tie for the Big East crown, depending on what Cincinnati does against the aforementioned UConn Huskies.

Neither scenario allow Syracuse to represent the conference in a BCS bowl game. A conference title, albeit as co-champs, would still be big for Doug Marrone and this program.

It's crazy to think how close Syracuse was to clinching a BCS bowl game. Had they beaten Rutgers earlier in the season, a game in which they dominated except for those pesky turnovers and blocked field goal, the Orange would be celebrating an outright Big East title and BCS bowl game.

Nevertheless, a conference title, given where this program was just four short years ago, would be another step in the right direction.
