Detroit Cass Tech (Mich.) sophomore RB Mike Weber is off to a fast start in his recruitment, grabbing two BCS offers in one day.

Mike Weber burst onto the scene this year for Cass Tech, finishing the season particularly strong as he rushed for over 900 yards in the Technicians' playoff run.

The coaches and players at Cass will tell you that this coming out party should have been last year, but a knee injury forced him to miss all of last season. He made up for lost time this season and was rewarded on Thursday when Illinois and Syracuse became the first two schools to offer him.

"It felt real good," the 5'9, 190-lb back said. "I actually was in class when I found out. Jayru came up to me in chemistry class and told me. I didn't think it was going to happen so early, so I'm very excited."

Both programs were in the school recently, but the rules prohibit Weber from speaking to them there, so he will return the favor and get out to both campuses soon.

"I'm going to go to Syracuse next week or the week after that. Illinois, I'm going to visit on my break."

During the season, Weber took several unofficial visits, one to Notre Dame for their game against Michigan, and then to Michigan for their game against Michigan State. He also attended the MAC Championship game in Detroit, but not as a recruit.

"It was real live," he said of South Bend. "The crowd was cheerful. The surroundings and atmosphere of game was good. I really like Notre Dame's program."

In Ann Arbor, he got to see another close game/

"The Big House was amazing. There were so many people there. The game was tuned in. It was really exciting the last couple minutes and to see the fans go crazy, that was nice."

The most exciting moment of the fall came at Ford Field though, when Weber's 190 rushing yards helped Cass Tech win their second straight state title. Being able to contribute to this one, made it miles better than last year.

"Last year, I was injured, so I couldn't play. I wanted to earn the ring myself, so I knew I had to work really hard. I was playing as hard as I can to help my team win and earn me a ring. It felt good to win state title."
