The Orange open up Big East play with a historic victory over Rutgers. It was Boeheim's 903rd win moving him into second play on the all-time wins list.

Brandon Triche got things started for the Orange early, scoring nine of their first eleven points. But Rutgers struck back behind Eli Carter's hot shooting from the outside. The Scarlet Knights took a brief 20-18 lead midway through the first half.

Syracuse responded with a 21-0 run to take a 39-20 lead into intermission. The run was capped at 24-0.

The second half continued the Syracuse domination as they maintained their large lead throughout. Brandon Triche led all scorers with 25 points including five three-pointers.

The Orange improved to 13-1 with the 78-53 win and are 1-0 in conference play.

The win gave Jim Boeheim the 903rd of his career, moving past Bobby Knight into second place in NCAA history.
