Zach Allen Reacts to Marrone Leaving

Doug Marrone is headed to the NFL. What does this mean for the 2013 recruiting class? CuseNation.com spoke with Zach Allen shortly after the news broke to see where things stand with the talented quarterback.

The Syracuse football program got some bad news Sunday morning as it was reported that Doug Marrone will become the next head coach of the Buffalo Bills. The next concern for Syracuse fans is how does this impact the current recruiting class? One of the most hyped commits is Temple (TX) quarterback Zach Allen, who reacted to the news upon hearing he would not have Marrone as his head coach.

"I don't really know exactly what to say," Allen admitted. "I'm committed to Syracuse right now. A big reason why you do commit is because of the coaching staff. Coach Marrone was a big reason why I committed to Syracuse University. But he's not the only reason I committed. The whole coaching staff was a big reason.

"I don't know what happens with the whole coaching staff. What they're going to do if coach Marrone takes the whole staff. Or if he leaves them and coach (Scott) Shafer becomes the next head coach or coach (Nathaniel) Hackett becomes the next head coach. I don't know exactly what's going to happen but hopefully I found out some more stuff in the next 24 hours or so. Right now I'm still committed to Syracuse."

One possible scenario is the Orange hire from within the current staff. In that scenario, it could ease the minds of many recruits.

"Yeah that would ease my mind because you commit to a school because of the coaching staff," Allen explained. "If they hire from within that means a majority of the coaching staff will stay. That's a big reason why I wanted to go there. So, yes it would definitely ease the situation."

In another scenario, the staff could largely be dissolved if an outside coach is brought in. That would force recruits to take a step back and see how things develop.

"I would definitely talk to the staff first," Allen said. "I'm committed to Syracuse right now and I'm happy with Syracuse. I just want to see how everything plays out."
