Syracuse stays with Villanova throughout, eventually taking and keeping the lead over their Big East foes. More inside.

The Syracuse Orange men's basketball team had a contest from the beginning with long-standing rival, the Villanova Wildcats.

There were eight ties in the game, with the Orange and the Wildcats trading the advantage back and forth.

But after taking the lead with 17:14 left to go in the game (36-34), Syracuse would never give it up again.

Junior forward C.J. Fair came on early in the second half, scoring nine points within the first five minutes of the latter period. He led all Syracuse scorers with 22.

Freshman forward Jerami Grant stepped up in the absence of senior forward James Southerland, scoring in double-figures for a personal single-game best of 13 points.

The Orange remain unbeaten at home this season at 12-0, moving to 16-1 overall and 4-0 in the Big East Conference, with a 72-61 victory.

Villanova heads to 11-5 and 2-1 in the Big East, with this their first conference loss.
