Tim Lester is New QB Coach

Syracuse has a new quarterbacks coach, and he is already working the recruiting trail. Details inside.

The new staff is on the recruiting trail this week, and some information about new members of the staff has come to light. Tim Lester had been rumored through former players and several media accounts that he was joining the Orange staff as quarterbacks coach.

That became more than a rumor today as he spoke to with a recruit and introduced himself as the Syracuse quarterbacks coach. Lester's opinion is clearly already viewed highly by new head coach Scott Shafer. The prospect in question indicated he had an offer from the old Marrone staff, and Lester is reviewing his film to see if that offer will be honored by the new staff.

Lester has a long history as a player and a coach. He spent five seasons as the head coach at division three Elmhurst College. He compiled a 33-19 record during that span. Prior to that, he spent two seasons on the Western Michigan staff as quarterbacks coach in 2005 and 2006 on the same staff as Scott Shafer. In 2007, he was the defensive coordinator for North Central College, another division three school.

As a player, Lester had a decorated career as a quarterback at Western Michigan. He finished his career in fifth place on the NCAA career passing yards (11,299) list and seventh in career passing touchdowns (89). After college, he played professionally for both the Arena Football League and XFL.
