Syracuse University made the decision to promote from within in tabbing defensive coordinator Scott Shafer as the next head coach.

At the helm, Shafer has had to replace the majority of the football staff after former head coach Doug Marrone took with him to the Buffalo Bills almost every familiar face on the Orange.

Shafer began first with finding someone to take the vacancy he left at defensive coordinator by bringing in Chuck Bullough.

He followed with making George McDonald offensive coordinator and instead of having McDonald also serve as quarterbacks coach like Nathaniel Hackett did, Shafer called upon Tim Lester to coach the passers.

Shafer then keyed in on the running backs, adding DeAndre Smith to the staff, followed by Clark Lea being added to oversee the linebackers.
