Recruiting picking up for Richardson

Malachi Richardson

Malachi Richardson has made his name as one of the best shooters in the class of 2015, and now he is looking like a more complete player and that means more recruiting attention is coming his way.

Four-star wing Malachi Richardson is one of the best shooters in the class of 2015. Now at Roselle (NJ) Catholic, Richardson looked to be a more complete player at the Flyin to the Hoop event in Dayton. Now Richardson is seeing his recruitment pick up.

Roselle Catholic is one of the top teams in the country, though Richardson says they need to bring it every game.

"It's been an up and down season," said Richardson of the year. "We have a few losses that we shouldn't have. We are a good team, but things can get better. I am confident we can fix things by March."

Richardson looked more comfortable handling the ball and playing defense, and he says he has focused on being a more complete player.

"My game has been developing well," said Richardson. "I have had a good season and I enjoy playing with this team and everything."

Recruiting wise things are picking up for Richardson who is seeing some of the top programs in the country coming after him.

"Indiana has been in my ear a lot, Syracuse, and Villanova as well," said Richardson. "Also I just saw Ohio State with my high school team before we came here."

Syracuse has Richardson's teammate Tyler Roberson already committed. Also it is a program that Richardson has followed for a long time.

"I love the school, it has always been a dream school," said Richardson. "Tyler hasn't said anything to me about it yet, but I know he would want me there as well."

When it comes to the Hoosiers, they have been making Richardson a priority in the 2015 class.

"It is a great program and I can see myself playing under Coach (Tom) Crean and Coach (Kenny) Johnson," Richardson explained. "It is just a great program."

Also Villanova has had a lot of success over the years recruiting the state of New Jersey, and they are hoping that continues with Richardson.

"Coach Jay Wright is a great coach," said Richardson of Villanova. "I love their facility and it is close to home which is good."

While Ohio State is just beginning to pick up the interest in Richardson, he did note that the trip he took to the campus made an impression.

"It is a lovely campus," said Richardson. "I love the atmosphere that they have there and everything."

At this point Richardson has no timetable for a decision and plans on taking some visits before getting too far along in the process.
