The Syracuse Orange are coming off of back-to-back losses, ousting them from first place in the conference. One of those losses came a week ago to the Georgetown Hoyas, their first defeat inside the Carrier Dome since the end of the 2010-11 season, snapping a 38-game home-winning streak.
In contrast, the Louisville Cardinals are entering the Dome on a four-game winning streak, two at home and two on the road.
Syracuse emerged victorious in their last match with Louisville, earlier this season, thanks to the superb shooting of senior guard Brandon Triche from long range (5-for-7) and late-game stops and scores by sophomore guard Michael Carter-Williams, en route to a 70-68 triumph.
Junior guard Russ Smith provides the biggest threat to Syracuse after scoring 25 points and ending perfect at the line in the previous game.
As both of these teams square off, they are in a must-win situation to not only remain in the Big East's top four, but to also have an opportunity to claim the top spot.
The Orange have struggled versus teams like Georgetown and Marquette who have instituted zone defenses, something Louisville has also been known to do. If the Cardinals show zone in this contest, Syracuse will have to prove better on their jump shooting and move the ball around effectively to have a better outcome than they have had as of late.
Both teams also like to get out and run. Whoever can get in transition and finish most effectively will most likely take this match.
