Syracuse has an important week ahead, both on and off the field. While the team gets set to the take the field for training camp, the Orange also host important prospects off of it.
Aaron Roberts visits Syracuse on August 9th and will be staying with the Orange for a couple of days. The offensive lineman prospect is down to Syracuse and Illinois, and has already visited the Illini. If he leaves campus without committing, that is not a good sign. However, everything points to the Orange grabbing their first OL recruit in the 2014 class during that weekend.
Thomas Holley may be the most talented player in New York. He has been down south to check out the Florida schools, as well as Penn State and others. The Orange are set to host the 4-star defensive tackle on Thursday. Commit Zaire Franklin is slated to join Holley on campus, and Wayne Williams could be visiting as well. This is a huge opportunity for Syracuse to join the race for Holley by making a big impression on the talented prospect.
Football is back! Camp gets underway on Monday as the Orange look towards that August 31st season opener against Penn State. The first week could give us big insights into who will step up at quarterback, which incoming players will make an impact, and what the new offense will look like.
Several battles will be taking place to determine who sits atop the depth chart. There are still question marks at defensive end. The right tackle position has the potential for a competitive battle. The return game has the potential for a battle as Brisly Estime and Darius Kelly look to supplant Jeremiah Kobena, Wayne Morgan, and Ritchy Desir.
Adding to the intrigue is the start of the Scott Shafer era as well as Syracuse in the ACC. Camp will be intense as the new coaching staff looks to make a statement in their first season.
The week ahead will help shape the Syracuse season in a big way. It will also help shape the recruiting class with two critical visitors. Stay tuned to CuseNation.com for complete coverage.
