'Cuse official has big impact on Hudson

Three star cornerback Cordell Hudson is taking his final official visits before making a decision. He visited Syracuse over the weekend, and left very impressed. Hudson discusses the trip's impact on his recruitment inside.

Largo (Fla.) High cornerback Cordell Hudson has been high on Syracuse's wish list for some time. Over the weekend, he took his first trip to check out the campus for an official visit.

"It was a very nice visit," Hudson said. "I experienced a lot of new things up there. It's a lot different than Florida coming to New York from Florida. I really enjoyed the players and the coaches. Just experiencing the campus and really the college experience. It was pretty nice.

"The snow was cool. It was my first time seeing it. It was cool. There wasn't that much but it was cool."

While there were a lot of things about the trip to Syracuse to like, one part that stood out was hanging out with the guys.

"I think my favorite part was being around the players," Hudson said. "Being around them, seeing how they bond and interact with each other. They're like a family really. All the guys, pretty much, are saying that they all hang out and go everywhere together."

During every official visit, a critical time is when the recruit spends time with the coaching staff. The three star corner said that part went very well.

"I met pretty much all the coaches," Hudson said. "I sat down with coach Reed, the defensive backs coach. I sat down with coach Bullough, the defense coordinator and I sat down with coach Shafer, the head coach. They were pretty good.

"We talked about how they're going to improve next year and how I would fit in with the defense. They're losing two cornerbacks that are both seniors this year and they're only bringing back two. A junior and a senior. They're taking two corners right now so I've got a good chance at coming in and playing early."

Saturday night, the group of prospects attended the Syracuse basketball game against Binghamton. The fact that the Orange played in the Dome surprised Hudson.

"It was amazing," Hudson said. "I didn't know that they played basketball and football in the Dome. I thought they just played football in there. When they told me we were going to the Dome I was like, ‘what?'

"Then I saw it how they put the basketball court out there in the middle of the field. It was crazy. Syracuse basketball is real, man."

Two more aspects of the trip that Hudson spoke very highly of were the facilities and the food.

"They have some really nice facilities," Hudson said. "They actually have a new indoor practice facility being build right now. I've seen plans for that, man, and that's pretty high stuff right there.

"Food, they have a cook. She's been there for like 30 or 40 years. They call her Baby Doll. I love her already and her food is awesome. She made me breakfast this morning. It was a good way to end the trip, eating her food. We also went to Dave & Buster's and a place called Dinosaur Barbecue. That was good stuff."

While Hudson did not commit before leaving campus, the thought crossed his mind. Speaking with his parents first, however, is very important to the Largo standout.

"It was a good impact with this trip," Hudson said. "Before I was really considering Syracuse. This visit pushes them even further up. When I get home, I'm going to talk to my parents because I don't want to make a decision without them.

"Coach Lester is coming in for an in-home visit next Thursday and he's bringing coach Shafer the head coach. It all depends on what my mom thinks."
