Things heating up for Kayton Samuels

Kayton Samuels is committed to Georgia State, but is exploring all of his options. He picked up an offer from Syracuse Thursday night and discusses the Orange inside.

Lithonia (Ga.) Arabia Mountain defensive tackle Kayton Samuels has been committed to Georgia State for some time. Despite that pledge, his recruitment has picked up with new offers recently. Syracuse was one of those schools, extending an offer late Thursday night.

"I'm astounded right now," Samuels said. "The d-line coach (Tim Daoust) talked to me. He saw my film and said he was amazed. He said he wished he had seen my film earlier. He's coming down on Monday for an in-home visit. He set me up with an official next week Friday (January 31st). I'm definitely taking that."

When he visits Syracuse, is there a chance he flips his commitment and chooses the Orange?

"Oh yeah, yes sir," Samuels said. "I believe Sunday you should see some news that will amaze you. That's all I'm going to say, I'm talking too much. You'll see on Sunday."

Seeing major conference programs show interest recently proves to Samuels that his hard work has paid dividends as his recruitment heats up.

"It's great," Samuels said. "It just shows I'm a top talent. Schools like Syracuse don't recruit just regular athletes. So it means a lot to me. I've picked up a lot of offers these whole last two weeks, actually. Boise State originally gave me an offer. All the way out in Idaho. I had never talked to Boise in my life.

"I took a trip to Ball State (January 17th). Tulane offered. Everything's real hot right now. I'm just going to do my research and make the best decision before signing day. The schools I'm on right now are Syracuse, Ball State, Georgia State and Boise State. Those are my top four that will be in the mix for my decision."

When Samuels visits Syracuse next weekend, he knows exactly what he's looking for to see if it's the right fit.

"I want to see if it's a family feel," Samuels said. "I'm all about family and how people treat you. How the coaching staff treats you. I don't want to be just another player that you view as part of the job. I want to be a young man that you help mold into a better man.

"I want to be with coaches that will call you after you leave school and ask how you're doing. That will talk to you if you go to the NFL and ask how things are going. Just a family. A family with the coaches and the people there that don't want to go to another school."
