Franklin ready for change of scenery

Zaire Franklin, who passed on other schools trying to get him to flip, officially signed with Syracuse on Wednesday. He discusses that moment inside.

Wyndmoor (Pa.) La Salle College linebacker Zaire Franklin is looking forward to his future at Syracuse. He faxed in his letter of intent on Wednesday.

"To me, it means the world," Franklin said. "Because this is the results of a lot of hard work and a lot of sacrifices that I've made only to reach one of my dreams of playing D1 football. For my family, it means a lot too.

"Especially after everything with my mom and grand mom, it makes them proud to see me do well. The fact that they don't have to worry about paying for my college is big."

Franklin says he is excited about moving away from home despite being away from his family.

"Really just getting away from all the distractions that I've had to deal with growing up in Philly," Franklin said. "Not saying that there won't be any or even problems in Syracuse, it's just good to finally have a change of scenery and experience something different."

Focused on his career that will begin this summer, Franklin knows what he wants to accomplish while a member of the Orange football program.

"As a team, I want the Orange Bowl and National Championship," Franklin said. "It sounds crazy looking at our schedule, but I know we can do it. Personally, I want to be ACC freshman of the year and show what I can do from the beginning."
