Forrest 'very impressed' with Syracuse

Running back Jonathan Forrest took his first trip to the big in-state school over the weekend. He recaps his Syracuse visit inside.

One of the top rated players in New York State visited the Syracuse campus for the first time on Saturday. New Rochelle (N.Y.) High running back Jonathan Forrest was impressed.

"I think it went very well," Forrest said. "We didn't do too much but the head coach first spoke to everyone. We got a tour of the facilities and then we were off to the spring game. I really enjoyed myself.

"The facilities were really nice. Definitely one of the nicest I've seen."

The spring game was a big standout for the three-star prospect. Being able to check out the face passed Syracuse offense in person was important as he tries to envision himself in that system.

"I really liked the style of play the offense had," Forrest said. "I saw more of a spread, up-tempo offense that most colleges are switching to. Overall, that impressed me. Also, that receiver who wears number one (Ashton Broyld) is very, very talented."

The New Rochelle High standout also spoke with some of the Syracuse coaching staff. They weren't extensive conversations, but important nonetheless.

"I spoke with the coaches a little," Forrest said. "But not as much because of the spring game. Coach Bullough was just saying that he likes my style of play and that he will be down in the next few weeks to speak with me.

"The running backs coach (DeAndre Smith) told me to definitely in touch because he wants to speak more."

Forrest left campus without an offer, but that did not deter him. He should be back in Central New York over the summer to attend one of Syracuse's camps.

"I'd say that I left very impressed and that I'm going to do whatever it takes to get that offer," Forrest said. "They have a tremendous balance of football and academics which is something that is important to me.

"I wouldn't necessarily commit if they offered, but they would most likely be a top choice."
