Marquis Spruill was a four year starter for Syracuse, showing versatility by playing both outside and in the middle of the linebacking corps. On Saturday he took the next step in his football career when he was selected in the 2014 NFL Draft.
The Atlanta Falcons came into the draft looking for defensive help, specifically with guys who can rush the passer. Spruill loves to blitz and will have that opportunity with the team that was in the NFC Championship game just two seasons ago.
The Falcons snagged Spruill with the 28th pick in the fifth round.
Spruill displayed solid athleticism and speed throughout his time at Syracuse, as well as the leadership ability to quarterback the defense. He finished with 14.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks in his senior season.
Spruill ranks second in Syracuse history with 41.0 career tackles for loss.
