Syracuse is the right fit for Clausman

Syracuse landed three offensive linemen on Friday, two of which are teammates at St. Thomas Aquinas in Florida. Sam Clausman was one of those teammates and discusses his pledge inside.

Sam Clausman was very excited when Syracuse was the first school to offer him over two months ago. On Friday, he turned that offer into a decision as he gave a verbal commitment to the Orange.

"Coach George McDonald always tells me how it's a great opportunity and how well I would fit in," Clausman said. "It's in the ACC. I'd probably have a good chance of playing my freshman year. It's a really good academic program.

"Coach McDonald and the fact that I'm going up on June 6th made me comfortable enough to commit. And I really trust my head coach (Rocco Casullo) who said it's really good place to be. I take his word for it."

The 6-foot-4 offensive lineman could not say enough about his relationship with offensive coordinator George McDonald. That was a big factor in Clausman's decision.

"From day one, he's been really, really good to me," he said. "He's always looking forward to seeing me. He's always complimenting me. He always tells me that if I have any questions to call him. If I ever had questions on recruiting or just Syracuse in general he was there when I needed him."

Clausman's decision was important for his parents as well, who now do not have to worry about paying for college.

"It's a big relief off of their shoulders," Clausman said. "All the hard work has paid off. All of their sacrifices that they have made for me have all finally paid off."

The fact that Clausman will be joining his high school teammate, Colin Byrne, is a nice bonus as well.

"It's good," Clausman said. "From day one, we always really hit it off. From the first day I got to St. Thomas, we basically clicked. So it's great to be able to be with each other past high school."

Clausman will start out playing guard at Syracuse. He hopes to crack the starting lineup early.

"I want to graduate with a degree," Clausman said. "I also want to be able to be a starter by my sophomore year. I shooting for the start of my freshman year. I want to be successful at the university and make an impact on the Syracuse community."
