Langley High on Syracuse

Maryland defensive lineman Donald Langley holds over 40 scholarship offers and he is beginning to set his official visit schedule. The Orange remain in contention to get one of his five official visits -- Syracusefan.com speaks to Langley to find out the latest on his recruitment.

Like an animal in search of its prey, Donald Langley never lets up.

Whether working in the classroom, lifting weights, or dominating opponents in trenches, Langley's goal is obvious.

Perfection. Anything less just simply isn't good enough.

How else can you explain scholarship offers from 41 different Division 1 schools?

The list includes top programs such as Syracuse University, Tennessee, Texas A & M, Maryland, and Oklahoma.

The Orange has been in the running from the start.

"They're high because they've always been there and they've always encouraged me," Langley said. "I like the coach and everything."

No matter where he ends up, Langley will be a menace on the defensive line wherever he plays.

At 6-foot-2 and 295 pounds, Langley is ready to make an immediate impact.

"I know all conferences are good," Langley said. "It's going to be very competitive no matter where I go. I know for a fact that I can contribute right away. Coaches tell me that by the time I get there I will be able to contribute right away. I've gained 30 pounds since December, plus with my 4.8 speed, I have speed to terrorize the quarterback, I have a motor, I don't stop until the ball is on the ground."

But beyond Langley's impressive performance on the football field, his academic accolades are equally exceptional as he is slated to graduate one semester early from high school.

This decision was made to help ease his transition and preparation to the college game.

"You can get a jump start on everything," Langley said. "You won't have to waste time sitting on the bench."

Something he hasn't done a whole lot in high school, an outstanding period Langley attributes to his mentors along the way.

"My high school coach have really prepared for what's ahead," Langley added. "Any success I have is due to my high school coaches."

"I want to take at least four or five official visits, maybe by the middle of the season I'll have a decision"
