With a Syracuse offer already in the bag Auburn, N.Y., native Nick Lepak is waiting for more schools…
Lepak talks Cuse
"I went to pretty much every [home] game" last year, said Lepak, who holds a scholarship offer from the Cuse. "I always watched [Dwight] Freeney and [Donovan] McNabb."
As of right now Syracuse is the only offer for Lepak, a 6-5, 340-pound junior who earned all-state honors and helped his team to a state title in the state's largest size classification last year. As a defensive lineman, Lepak recorded 80 tackles, though schools seem to be recruiting him strictly as an offensive lineman.
Lepak has been hearing from a handful of other schools, including Notre Dame, Boston College and Duke, and is likely to pick up his share of offers before it's all said and done. This is something the Syracuse staff hasn't tried to ignore in its recruitment of Lepak.
"They laid it flat-out for me that there are going to be other schools looking at you and recruiting you, but you've just got to go with what you feel," said Lepak, who said he's been hearing mostly from assistant coach Chris White. "It's going to be a tough decision, but you just have to take it day by day."
Lepak bench presses a whopping 400 pounds and said his strength is, "I'm just really good at getting into my man and getting a good, strong base and driving."
He said he'd like to trim down to the 300-to-320 pound range this summer and getting quicker and more agile. In terms of his recruitment, he recently signed up to visit SU's spring practices and would like to make a decision before next season comes around. He received an SU offer back in December and is looking at possibly majoring in Criminal Justice in college.
"I'd like to [comitt] in the next two to three months, but I'm not 100 percent sure," he said.
As always, Syracusefan.com will keep you updated on Lepak's recruitment…
