Defensive end Michael Larrow of Union, N.J., recently took a trip to Syracuse and returned home not only with a great impression of the football program, but also a scholarship offer from the Orange. Syracusefan.com caught up with Larrow to get his thoughts on SU and his recruitment in general and here’s the latest …

“It was great. The campus was really nice. I really liked it up there a lot. I got to meet basically all of the coaches with open access, so that was good. And I got to meet a bunch of the players, and the campus was beautiful,” Larrow said.

Larrow is a 6-foot-3, 245-pound defensive end who last fall recorded 55 tackles, 10 sacks, five pass deflections and a blocked kick.

“Coach [Derrick] Jackson said he likes me because I’m athletic and big and fast for someone my size,” he said. “I’m more of a pass rusher, but I’m OK with the run, too.”

He’ll travel this weekend to UConn, another school that seems to be highly interested.

“I have two offers, one from Syracuse and one from Rutgers. [Otherwise] I’m probably hearing the most from Minnesota, Connecticut, South Florida and Clemson,” he said. “I’d like to decide sometime before my senior year starts.”

During his two-day SU visit Larrow spent a considerable amount of time with Jackson.

“My recruiter is coach Jackson and he would also be my position coach there, which is good. I got to watch practice and see his coaching style. I liked it. He’s not too in your face about anything,” he said.

Larrow, who has also visited Rutgers recently, got to meet with head coach Greg Robinson and check out the campus.

“I spent about 10 or 15 minutes in coach Robinson’s office. He was telling me about the program and how they’re trying to get better and about the type of people they’re trying to bring in,” Larrow said. “Rutgers campus isn’t like any college campus I’ve ever been to. It’s really spread out, but that’s not a big deal to me. Syracuse’s campus looks more like an Ivy League type of thing.

“I also saw the apartments they put players in and I liked it. They have a kitchen and everything, and they only put two players in each one,” he said.

Larrow, who will take on tight end duties in addition to his defensive role next fall, plans to make another visit to SU before the start of the summer. He said the Cuse is very much in the mix right now, but he wants to see several more schools before closing in on a decision…
