Moore to the Story

Moore to the Story

Once in-demand, three-star QB Clayton Moore found himself out in the cold – literally. Now, his plans are set

The college town of Oxford is about 100 miles north of Louisville, Mississippi, but three-star quarterback Clayton Moore had to log a lot of miles to finally end up there.

"I'm enrolling at Ole Miss," said Moore, who Scout.com had rated as the #2 quarterback prospect in the Magnolia State.

The signal-caller definitely took the road less traveled in search of a scholarship.

A family connection sent him north on an unofficial visit to Syracuse.  There, offensive coordinator Rob Spence (who an aunt suggested he make contact with – because their families went to the same church) has been enlisted to install a high-powered offense in the Carrier Dome.

Both Spence and new head coach Doug Marrone were out of town for Moore's visit, so Moore sent tapes… and waited.  Despite question marks surrounding the position, Moore said he didn't hear from Syracuse, or from Pittsburgh, who he had also visited on his trip.

Moore was down to his final option.  He originally committed to the Rebels, but Ole Miss took a step back after a sideline blowup with his high school coach in the state playoffs.

"I got into some trouble," said Moore about the incident, "but they (Ole Miss Coaches) told me I could earn my scholarship back."

Moore, who graduated in December, plans on starting school immediately, and walking on to the football team.
