"I feel like they're on the road to success," Onyeali said. "They may not be fully there yet bur I have a gut feeling about their attitude and the way they approach things."
The Denver, Co. native will visit Syracuse's campus this weekend (Sept. 25) for his first official visit of the recruiting season, but will wait to make any sort of decision until he sees the other schools that are recruiting him.
"I have visits to Minnesota and TCU scheduled," Oneyali said. "I want to go out to each place and see what they each have to offer."
Onyeali also has offers from Arizona State, Colorado, Colorado State, Kansas and Kansas State but has yet to schedule visits with those schools.
Syracuse is the only school east of the Mississippi to submit an offer but Onyeali said that won't factor into his decision.
"Location is not at all a factor," he said. "I'm just looking to play good teams."
Onyeali and his teammate, QB Jonny Miller, a Syracuse commit, have led Mullen to a 4-0 start in the high school season.
"He's my best friend," Onyeali said. "We always hang out."
Whether or not Miller influences Onyeali's decision is not clear, but what is clear is Onyeali's excitement to take the next step in the recruiting process with his official visit to Syracuse.
"I'm really excited," Onyeali said. "I can't wait to meet the coaches and see the facilities."
